Common Signs of Rodents in Your Home

Rodents are a relatively common problem in suburban homes, and even more so for dwellings situated on larger plots of land. Once rodents become established it can be difficult to get rid of them. Before you can manage a rodent problem, it is important to be able to recognize the signs of a rodent infestation. Below we will identify some of the signs of rodents in the home and consider how to address this.

Rodent Signs

Droppings: Like all animals, they need to get rid of their bodily waste somehow and one of these ways is fecal matter. Rodents’ toileting habits differ from species to species, so it is important to remember that droppings may be clustered in one location or spread around. Some droppings will be small and black, while others will be brown, thin and long.

Smell: Similarly to droppings rodents also urinate. Eventually, the smell will be very strong and sharp. This is due to the high levels of ammonia. Please note that this smell may not disappear if your rodent issue is resolved.

Scratching Noises: Rodents are highly active, particularly at night. Most commonly scratching noises will be heard coming from under floors, within walls, or even the ceiling overhead.

What To Do About Rodent Pests

If you find any of the above signs you mustn't ignore the rodent problem because they can grow in number very quickly. One of the most effective approaches to controlling rodents is to contact a professional pest control service. They will be able to guide what you can do in addition to how they can help. This will ideally address both current and future issues.
